Biography

Dr. Scuderi

Dr. Scuderi graduated from college in 1981 with Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude honors as he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Medical Biology from the University of Utah. In 1981, he started medical school at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He gained experience with Dr. William DeVries, world-renowned heart transplant surgeon who implanted the Jarvik-7 artificial heart in Barney Clark D.D.S. In 1984, he complemented his medical school training by obtaining pulmonary and infectious disease subinternships in Boston at Harvard University’s New England Deaconess and Mount Auburn Hospital programs. In 1985, he graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine.

In 1988, Dr. Scuderi completed his internship and residency training in internal medicine at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Long Beach. In 1988, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and earned board certification as an internist. In 1991, he again became a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine earning subspecialty board certification in cardiology and cardiovascular disease.

In 1992, Dr. Scuderi completed a four-year cardiology fellowship at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio where he was honored with the National Research Service Award by the National Institute for his research in echocardiography involving single-lung transplant patients. He also took part in landmark cardiovascular research that involved Dr. Julio Palmaz, pioneer who revolutionized interventional cardiology by creating the Palmaz stent, later known as the Johnson and Johnson (J & J) stent and ultimately led to the creation of the Cypher (drug-eluting) stent. This stent system has revolutionized cardiovascular treatment of coronary artery disease by dramatically reducing the need for coronary artery bypass surgery. The latest coronary stenting technology provides Dr. Scuderi, an interventional cardiologist, with the ability to approach complex coronary artery disease and offer patients 98% success rates and exceptionally high long-term patency rates.

In 1992, Dr. Scuderi dedicated his first two years of cardiology practice to the residents of San Francisco and surrounding Bay area. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (F.A.C.C.), having been sponsored by Dr. Robert O’Rourke and Dr. Dean Mason, both nationally renowned leaders in the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association.

In 1994, Dr. Scuderi moved by to Southern California where he began his cardiology practice here in the South Bay. In 1996, he founded CardioFit Medical Group, Inc. In 2001 and again in 2011, Dr. Scuderi earned recertification with the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiology and cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Scuderi has distinguished himself as an outstanding, dedicated, personable physician who is held in high regard by his patients and colleagues. While Dr. Scuderi emphasizes preventive medical care, he has an impeccable record as an interventional cardiologist and performs coronary angioplasty, stenting, implantation of cardiac monitoring devices, and comprehensive treatment of venous disease including endovenous ablation (closure of incompetent veins), as well as removal of varicose and spider veins.
